Full On Video Launches DRM-enabled Leased Feeds
LOS ANGELES, CA – Full On Video announced the release of Full On Video Reloaded today, a new leased feeds product with Digital Rights Management (DRM) enabled, which the company envisions as tool to encourage membership retention for Full On streaming clients.According to the company’s press release, Full On Video is the first leased content provider to “integrate the power of DRM for the benefit of it’s Webmaster Clients.”
The first of Full On’s products to feature the new DRM technology is their new “Mega Feed.” Described on Full On’s website as a “monster plug in,” the feed features content from over 100 full length DVDs, with new videos added each week.
Full On Video’s founder, JMK, said the idea sprang from a conversation he had with the owner of a large affiliate program who felt that content “would truly be king” if it was able to provide a forceful but unobtrusive way to encourage members to stay on for another month.
According to Full On’s press release, the new DRM mechanism issues a license after the initial download, which allocates to the surfer a pre-determined span of time for viewing the movie. When the license expires, the surfer is automatically prompted to return to the specific member site from which he downloaded the movie, in order to have that license extended. The process repeats itself as long as the member wants to play that video. Even if surfer’s membership has expired, they will be prompted to go back to the specific site. Without a new DRM license, the movie will not play.
“We’re giving back to the webmaster community, and providing a valuable tool in retaining the ever elusive member,” JMK said. “Webmasters can use this opportunity to renew the expired membership, or to offer an incentive to returning customers to renew.”
JMK said that result of Full On’s beta testing was very strong. “Our clients noticed as much as a 20% increase in retention during the initial testing phase,” he said, adding that “new features and functions will be added on future releases of Full On Video Reloaded.”
