FSC Releases Annual State-of-the-Industry Report
CHATSWORTH, CA — The Free Speech Coalition, the national trade organization for the adult entertainment industry, has issued its annual State-of-the-Industry Report 2007-08. The report is intended to provide an overview of the adult entertainment business for industry members, media and the public.FSC Executive Director Diane Duke explained that the 2007-08 report serves dual purposes, one internal and one external: Providing an overview of the industry to its members, and providing industry outsiders, including the media, with some “bullet points” highlighting several important aspects of the adult-entertainment industry.
“Our goal with this report was to go a little more in-depth than past reports,” Duke said. “It’s a comprehensive state-of-the-industry report, an overview of the business. It’s intended for everyone in the business to read, from webmasters to retailers.”
The 22-page report includes sections on the size of the adult industry, digital media delivery, adult novelties, distribution, employment, adult performers, protecting child welfare, and 18 U.S.C. §2257 (the federal recordkeeping and labeling law). FSC membership director Scott Lowther led the report’s creation, and Scott Ross researched it and wrote the initial draft, which went through multiple reviews by experts from across the spectrum of adult businesses before it was finalized.
Duke said one of FSC’s primary goals in compiling this year’s report was to provide — specifically to mainstream media — information and “a way of talking about the industry.” She touted the section as the highlight of the report because it is designed to clear up misconceptions about the adult industry that continue to circulate in the mainstream press.
“This report is a great tool to use for talking points for the mainstream media, and it’s also something we can hand to politicians on Capitol Hill with facts and figures pertaining to our business,” Duke said. “This report is a wonderful opportunity for us to get the truth out.”
