Free Speech Coalition Calls For Industry Support of Embattled Video Store Owner
MARYVILLE, TN – The Free Speech Coalition announced today that adult video store owner David Anderson of Sunshine Video2 was forced to close his business this week after a group of local citizens used the Adult-Oriented Registration Act of 1998 to convince a court to order the closure.”I called the Free Speech Coalition. They helped me find the attorney I needed and are now helping me get the word out to raise the funds I need to fight this,” said Anderson.
Anderson will make his first appearance in court on March 11th, and has retained the services of John Herbison, a local attorney from Nashville. Additionally, Anderson will consult with adult industry attorney Louis Sirkin, the Cincinatti-based attorney who succeeded recently in convincing a federal judge to drop all obscenity charges against Extreme Associates.
“I need to raise $15,000 to defend myself,” said Anderson. “I sure do
appreciate all of the customers who continue to make purchases from my
website and also the support I am getting from folks who have called,
emailed, or made a contribution to my defense fund.”
According to the Free Speech Coalition, more information about how anyone can help support David Anderson in his legal fight can be found at www.sunshynevideo.com.
The Sunshyne Video website explains that the trouble started when a couple of individuals from a local Baptist church decided to contact the local press and complain about the existence of the adult video store.
“Everyone in the world is entitled to their own thoughts and opinions as long as they do not try to impose them on others unjustly,” reads a statement on the Sunshyne Video website. “That is very rude and not the basis for which this country stands for and from which it came.”
