Fleiss talked about her former Beverly Hills prostitution business, principles for running a successful business of any kind, her time in prison, former boyfriend Tom Sizemore, her current promotions, and why she thinks prostitution will be legal in Las Vegas in two years.
Asked how she feels about having run the most successful prostitution ring in recorded history, Fleiss was quick to express pride in her accomplishments.
“I took the oldest profession on earth and I did it better than anyone on earth,” said Fleiss. “I mean, I don’t feel bad at all about it. I accomplished something no one else can do.”
Fleiss said that basic principles of good business were behind her success.
“I just applied basic business principles that everyone should apply,” said Fleiss. “You just be an honest business person and make everyone happy … Look at ice cream. It’s been around forever, right? A very long time. But Ben and Jerry’s came along with this killer ice cream and surpassed everyone … If you have superior products and superior quality, what’s that movie with Kevin Costner? Build it and they will come.”
Fleiss was arrested in June of 1993 on charges stemming from her Beverly Hills prostitution business. “I cornered the market so I made many enemies,” Fleiss told host YNOTBob. Her subsequent conviction on charges of pandering and money laundering led to a three year prison sentence which Fleiss described as “lesbian hell.” She agreed that some people sentenced to prison deserve to be there, but pointed out the injustice of long sentences for drug-related offenses.
“They have girls in their twenties doing life over drugs, it’s ridiculous,” said Fleiss. “I mean, how do they take away a twenty year-old life for selling drugs … sure there are a lot of bad people in prison that should be in prison, but there’s also a lot of good people too.”
After serving her prison sentence, Fleiss started a one year fling with actor Tom Sizemore, but the relationship ended badly and Fleiss is currently suing him in court. Sizemore was accused of beating Fleiss and violating a restraining order that was placed against him. Asked directly about Sizemore, Fleiss merely commented, “Let me tell you, he could turn a woman gay.”
Asked about the sex industry in general, Fleiss expressed her belief that the city of Las Vegas will eventually legalize prostitution in an effort to fight of challenges from Native American casinos.
“For the first time ever Las Vegas is losing billions of dollars in revenue because of the Indian casinos, and they’re taking a hit. And that’s why the mayor now … comes out with those comments, ‘What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.’ ‘Sin city.’ It’s because in two years … they’re going to legalize prostitution in downtown Vegas. And let me tell you, who do you think will run the best brothel on earth?”
Fleiss admitted that publicity stemming from a movie that was made about her life led to a number of inquiries from adult entertainment companies. She said she hadn’t seen the movie, but from what she has heard about it she has no complaints.
“I hear they portrayed me as an excellent prostitute and I’m glad because all these porno companies came clamoring after me to do some narration of some Heidi Fleiss tales.”
That led to an eventual agreement with Phoenix Releases for an upcoming video release in which Fleiss will narrate and lend her name for marketing purposes.
“I told them the girls have to be fine. I don’t want some burnt out old porno stars, you have to get these fine looking girls that really worked for me,” said Fleiss. “Nobody could get the girls I got, and they were beating down my door.”
Who were some of the high profile celebrity clients whose names might have been in her rumored little black book? While Fleiss refused to name names, she did suggest that her client base wasn’t limited.
“Everyone who you think is doing it is doing it, and that’s just how it is.”
