Feminist Porn Awards Deadline Nears
TORONTO – Jan. 17 is the deadline for submission of entries in the 2014 Feminist Porn Awards. For the ninth consecutive year, the awards will honor ethically produced porn that celebrates diverse sexuality and desire.
“We believe erotic fantasy is powerful, and those who do not identify with the mainstream offerings deserve to put their dreams and desires on film, too,” the awards’ mission statement notes. “As feminists and sex-positive people, we want to showcase and honor those who are creating erotic media with a feminist sensibility that differs from what porn typically offers.”
In order to be considered for a Feminist Porn Award, submitted movies, shorts and websites must meet at least one of the following criteria:

“Every year we have an even more diverse group of films by people of all sexes, genders, bodies and desires to share with our growing audience,” said Carlyle Jansen, who founded both sex-positive retailer Good For Her and the Feminist Porn Awards. “We look forward to seeing what expanded feminist expressions of porn look like on screen and seeing more locally produced films.”
Though the organization is especially happy to receive submissions from Canadian filmmakers, judges welcome works from producer worldwide, Jansen noted.
“Good For Her wants porn to be held to a high standard,” she said. “We all deserve to see artistic expressions that celebrate the diversity of who we are in all our glory, and artists deserve to have their work recognized. For these reasons, and many more, we are honored to be the presenter and founders of the annual Good For Her Feminist Porn Awards.”

The ninth annual Feminist Porn Awards ceremony will take place April 4 at Toronto’s Capitol Theatre. Events surrounding the gala include a screening of nominated films on April 3.
