YNOT – Nominations for the seventh annual Feminist Porn Awards, which recognize excellence in adult content produced for and by women and other marginalized segments of the adult entertainment industry, will be accepted through Feb. 17.

In order to be considered for a Feminist Porn Award, the movie, short or website must meet at least one of the following criteria:

1) A woman had a hand in the production, writing, direction, etc. of the work.

2) The work expands the boundaries of sexual representation on film, challenging stereotypes often found in mainstream pornography.

3) The work may focus on any aspect of sexuality, but must depict genuine pleasure, desire and agency.

While all Feminist Porn Award winners have been erotically charged, many also focused on the female perspective from start to finish. Typically, the works evidence connection, communication and collaboration between the performers and filmmakers and depict real people of diverse sexual orientations having the kinds of encounters to which disenfranchised audience members can relate. The works frequently touch on anti-racist and anti-oppression themes.

“We believe the world is inundated with cheesy, cliché, degrading and patronizing porn,” said a spokeswoman for adult boutique Good for Her, which founded and organizes the annual awards. “But we also believe that erotic fantasy is powerful, and that women and marginalized communities deserve to put their dreams and desires on film, too. As feminists and sex-positive people, we want to showcase and honor those who are creating erotic media with a feminist sensibility.

“Good for Her wants porn to be held to a higher standard,” she continued. “We all deserve to see artistic expressions that celebrate who we are in all our glory, and artists deserve to have their work recognized.”

To enter, mail four DVD screeners plus a completed submission form for each title to FPA Nominations, c/o Good For He, 175 Harbord Street, Toronto, ON M5S1H3, Canada. Customs forms for packages sent from outside Canada should state “Gift” with a value of $0.

Website entries may be submitted by emailing Carla with a completed website submission form plus usernames and passwords for five judges.

The Feminist Porn Awards gala ceremony will take place April 20, with a special screening of nominated works scheduled for April 19.
