Female tech founder invents a device to help men
The male sexual health sector isn’t necessarily the first place you would think you’d find a 36-year-old female sex tech entrepreneur. However, Patricia López Trabajo, Sevillian native and CEO of revolutionary brand MYHIXEL is leading the way in the global market, breaking both boundaries and taboos as she goes.
López Trabajo’s background was initially in tourism, before joining a male sex toy company where she led the commercial and marketing departments with the distributors and wholesalers across Europe. It was whilst working in this particular role that Patricia discovered a study revealing that 31% of men between 18 and 56 years of age suffer from premature ejaculation, and 85% of these men prefer to keep quiet about the problem.
Patricia says “Those figures really shocked me. That such an important male sexual dysfunction was still considered so taboo in this era genuinely blew my mind. It led me to research further and I discovered that men wanted more information on premature ejaculation and how to last longer in bed, but nowhere to go to get advice but the internet and local GP practice. My research showed that men weren’t comfortable speaking to their doctor about these subjects. I knew from that moment that something needed to change, we needed to normalise these taboos, and the journey to discovering the MYHIXEL brand was born.”
“Advances in science and technology have really enabled us to reevaluate and transform our thinking around male sexual health and how we deal with common male sexual health issues such as premature ejaculation” López Trabajo continues. She explains, “Our ethos transcends just the why and how by reframing that sexual dysfunction, originally labelled as a disease, is more likely a societal psychological conditioning. Through extensive research and by using ground-breaking advances in technology, we found a way to successfully marry cognitive science behaviour and gamification to enhance the unlearning processes that trigger the premature pattern or response of the ejaculatory reflex. It is through the cognitive learning process and communications that healthy is the new focus and sexual base, and that it’s now more than OK for an individual to want to improve their sexual satisfaction without having to fear shame.”.
Patricia calculated that one device was sold every 4 minutes, showing just how eager men actually are to get their hands on an alternative therapy. The product was officially launched in the summer of the following year and the valuation of the company after the last investment was €2million.
