FapMapper: Pin the Tall Tale on the Donkey
VAN NUYS, Calif. — FapMapper, a new iPhone app from adult entertainment studio Pink Visual, has applied electronic mapping technology to an underserved area, and the result promises hours of fun for the morbidly curious and the terminally inventive.Currently in beta, the product is designed to “augment an age-old tradition of boasting about one’s sexual conquests,” according to Brand and Product Manager Kim Kysar.
Although the name suggests the utility is strictly about mapping locations where one has engaged in the equally ages-old pastime of self-pleasure, (among young, tech-savvy Web users “fap” is an increasingly popular euphemism for masturbation), Kysar said the app’s intended function goes beyond autoeroticism.
“FapMapper is an extension of those conversations guys have with their college buddies after each summer vacation,” she said. “You know, the ones in which they lie like rugs about how many hot chicks they nailed over the summer. That’s what FapMapper is all about: adding a visual and geographic element to your sexual exploits, be they real or fabricated.”
Users log in to the app on a mobile device equipped with GPS capabilities (currently only iPhone, but compatibility with other devices will be along shortly, Kysar said). FapMapper detects their location and adds a virtual “fap pin” to a world map viewable by all users. Members also can place pins using a desktop or laptop computer by typing an address into the “seek” function. Comments describing the activity at the location may be added to each pin.
“The comments are at least half the fun,” Kysar said. “We anticipate that for a lot of users, it will be about coming up with the most outrageous claim, paired with the most unlikely location they can think of. We’ve already seen people claiming to have masturbated at the White House, and I’m sure eventually we’ll have quite a number of landmarks and historic sites in the mix.”
