Email Porn Spammers Sentenced to Five Years in Prison
PHOENIX, AZ — Jeffrey Kilbride of Venice, CA and James Schaffer of Paradise Valley sent millions of unsolicited porn ad emails from their Phoenix-based business and now they each have been sentenced to more than five years in federal prison as part of the nation’s first prosecution under a federal anti-spamming law.The pair earned more than two million dollars in commissions in four years by sending the spam and were charged by the feds with fraud, money laundering, and transportation of obscene materials. The men bought lists of email addresses and sent the porn spam to those on the lists, the Justice Department said.
The pair tried to appear as though the emails were coming from a server in Amsterdam to avoid federal prosecution but failed in doing that. The government is also demanding that Kilbride and Schaffer surrender $1.3 million of their income from their crimes.
