EDSE Sex Ed Certification Program Recruits Sexologist Goody Howard for ‘Sex & Aging’
Educational organization Everyone Deserves Sex Ed (EDSE) has invited dynamic sexologist Goody Howard to train attendees of EDSE’s upcoming 25-hour sex educator certification program, scheduled Nov. 9-10 and 16-17 in Los Angeles. Howard will facilitate discussion of the health and social impacts of aging and how they correlate with sexual pleasure, health, identity and more, giving EDSE attendees a stronger understanding of these talked-about but often misunderstood subjects.
For more than 14 years, Howard has been teaching comprehensive sexuality education and healthy relationships for campuses, companies, and communities with the intention of reducing stigma and promoting sexual and social responsibility. Boasting the mantra, “Be Good or Be Good at It!”, Howard is dedicated to normalizing sex-positive conversations about subjects frequently misreported, misconstrued, and sometimes even left out of traditional sex ed curricula.
“When we think of sexuality and its expression, our most seasoned citizens are often left out of the conversation,” Howard said. “The world is living longer, and sex and intimacy are important to every single one of us regardless of age or ability. I love presenting the reframe necessary for sex ed folx to include populations that are often treated as non-sexual, and I look forward to doing so for EDSE attendees. Let’s get it on! They definitely are.”
EDSE founder and lead educator Anne Hodder-Shipp, ACS, tapped Howard to teach this portion of the certification because of her enthusiastic and interactive teaching style, as well as her professional understanding of how sexuality and identity shift over time. A fixture on college campuses, professional development events, and sexuality conferences, Goody’s work offers insightful education that challenges attendees’ understanding of intersectionality and inspires development of cultural competency.
“I’ve been a fan of Goody online for years and when I saw her most recent sexual attitude reassessment workshop co-hosted at the Sex Down South conference, it clicked that she’d be an invaluable asset to EDSE,” Hodder-Shipp said. “Goody’s passion and enthusiasm for the subject matter is palpable and I’m honored that she agreed to join our team. EDSE attendees will receive an education about sex and aging that’s intersectional, insightful and compassionate, and I’m so excited to work with Goody on this level.”
Ideal for budding sex educators, health and social service workers, and anyone looking to bolster their sex ed knowledge, the EDSE certification program prepares attendees to have informed, inclusive and confident conversations about sex. Over the course of two weekends, EDSE attendees will learn key information about human sexuality, intimate health, consent, and communication skills and be trained to respond to sex-related questions in a concise, intersectional, and nonjudgmental manner. Attendees also will leave with new insight into their own sexuality — a fun side effect of sex education training.
The next EDSE certification will take place Nov. 9-10 and 16-17 in Los Angeles. Individual certification is $2,095, and payment plans are available to those in need.
To apply, fill out the form at https://everyonedeservessexed.com/certification/. An EDSE representative will review and be in contact within 48 hours of submission.
“During my time as a sex educator, and a sex blogger before that, there was one thing I noticed most people had in common: a lack of confidence in, and even a little fear about, talking about sex,” Hodder-Shipp said. “This insecurity has a dramatic trickle-down effect. It leaves professionals feeling unprepared for workplace dynamics, parents terrified of having ‘the talk,’ and service providers caught off-guard during sensitive conversations with their clients. My goal with EDSE is give people access to the kind of professional and educational support so many of us have lacked throughout our personal and professional lives.”
