EDSE Sex Ed Certification Invites ‘Ageless Sexuality’ Advocate Joan Price to Next Event
Educational organization Everyone Deserves Sex Ed (EDSE) has invited author, educator, and advocate for ageless sexuality Joan Price to EDSE’s next 25-hour sex educator certification program, scheduled April 18-19 and 25-26 in Los Angeles. Price facilitates candid discussions about the health and social impacts of aging and how they correlate with sexual pleasure, health, identity and more, giving EDSE attendees a stronger understanding of these talked-about but often misunderstood subjects.
At age 76, Price talks out loud about senior sex, partnered or solo, in speeches, workshops, and webinars, and on her zesty blog, which includes senior sex news, views, and sex toy reviews from a senior perspective. Price is known publicly as a “senior sexpert,” “the beautiful face of senior sex,” “wrinkly sex kitten,” and — her favorite — “the woman leading a sex revolution for seniors.” Most recently she teamed with sex educator and award-winning adult star Jessica Drake to co-create “Jessica Drake’s Guide to Wicked Sex: Senior Sex” for Wicked Pictures, which just received the 2020 AVN Award for Best Niche Production – a historic first for mainstream adult entertainment.
“When it comes to sex and aging, the conversation often leaves out pleasure, connection, and problem-solving (if it happens at all), and I’ve built a career out of making sure these conversations happen and are taken seriously,” Price said. “Sex and intimacy are important parts of the human experience and these needs and desires don’t go away at a certain age! This is why I love opportunities like this to teach sex educators, service providers, and other professionals how to reframe their perspectives on senior sex so they can better serve their clients.”
EDSE founder and lead educator Anne Hodder-Shipp, ACS, tapped Price to teach this portion of the certification because of her enthusiastic and candid teaching style, as well as her professional understanding of how sexuality and identity shift over time. An acclaimed author of multiple books, including the award-winning “Naked at Our Age: Talking Out Loud about Senior Sex,” and “Sex at Our Age” columnist for SeniorPlanet.org, Price is skilled at providing important information packaged in accessible ways.
“I’ve been a fan of Joan’s for years and I jumped at the opportunity to bring her into the EDSE family to facilitate the Sex and Aging discussion,” Hodder-Shipp said. “Joan’s passion and enthusiasm for the subject matter is palpable and I’m honored that she agreed to join our team. EDSE attendees receive an education about sex and aging that’s insightful, compassionate, and fun to experience, and I’m excited to work with Joan again this spring.”
Ideal for budding sex educators, health and social service workers, and anyone looking to bolster their sex ed knowledge, the EDSE certification program prepares attendees to have informed, inclusive and confident conversations about sex. Over the course of two weekends, EDSE attendees will learn key information about human sexuality, intimate health, consent, and communication skills and be trained to respond to sex-related questions in a concise, intersectional, and nonjudgmental manner. Attendees also will leave with new insight into their own sexuality — a fun side effect of sex education training.
The next EDSE certification will take place April 18-19 and 25-26, 2020, in Los Angeles. Individual certification is $2,095, and payment plans are available to those in need.
To apply, fill out the form at Everyone Deserves Sexed.. An EDSE representative will review and be in contact within 48 hours of submission.
“During my time as a sex educator, and a sex blogger before that, there was one thing I noticed most people had in common: a lack of confidence in, and even a little fear about, talking about sex,” Hodder-Shipp said. “This insecurity has a dramatic trickle-down effect. It leaves professionals feeling unprepared for workplace dynamics, parents terrified of having ‘the talk,’ and service providers caught off-guard during sensitive conversations with their clients. My goal with EDSE is give people access to the kind of professional and educational support so many of us have lacked throughout our personal and professional lives.”
