Eddie Finocchiaro: The Ham Behind The Ham Radio Show
Though he arguably helms the gold standard in unexpurgated radio talk, it should be noted that Howard Stern is not the only person delivering radio with an edge.
Be he spinning around the politics of the day or interviewing adult stars, Eddie Finocchiaro gives forth across his program — “The Ham Radio Show” — with wicked aplomb. One can peruse Boshido’s show’s website to gander at the “Spank Bank of the Week” model, as well as listen to the two-hour program that would pretty much make anybody blush.
Finocchiaro took some time out to talk to us about many things. Truth: We’re blushing, too.
YNOT: Can money be made in radio these days and if so, how does one make money with adult radio broadcasting?
Eddie Finocchiaro: Well, first and foremost, money can definitely be made in radio, no matter the subject or format. More people listen to radio than watch TV, so the audience is absolutely there on all formats — satellite, internet and, of course, terrestrial, aka, “old school” radio.
Point number two, with those audience numbers, advertisers are definitely out there and want to sell their particular products on your show. All that really matters is that their product is something your audience wants or needs.
What it comes down to is if they have ears, they will listen and spend money.
Could you make your very adult show work on terrestrial radio?
I have indeed made my show work on terrestrial radio. Before “The Ham Radio Show,” I was on an AM station on the Philadelphia/New Jersey border WNJC 1360AM.
But on the net, you have ultimate freedom?
Yes, being on internet radio is very freeing, and we are without restrictions and that, of course, builds creativity and thus a more entertaining show and builds ratings.
Kind of a build it or in your case, say it, and they will come… where advertisers are concerned?
Yes, in our case word-of-mouth is making advertisers foam at the mouth to work with us.
How did you land where you are, find your “brand” and find your online crew of merrymakers? That is quite the close-knit crew of what seems to be old friends.
I landed where I am now from busting my ass and building my empire brick by damn brick! My show airs LIVE on HamRadioShow.com and other multiple internet radio stations, plus I also work at SiriusXM.
And your team?
Danny, Billy and Joe are friends that have been with the show since day one, and they are not just friends or cast members. They are my brothers-in-arms fighting the good fight against crappy entertainment in the world. They all fill their roles with skills and abilities that are beyond important to the show and myself. I can’t even imagine the show without them.
What’s the end game here? Where are you hoping to take the show, if anywhere else at all?
The endgame is to bring the show to SiriusXM because I want to walk in the footsteps of the greats who came before me. I don’t care if that sounds corny but, at the end of the day, I am a fan first and to be on the same airwaves as Howard Stern, Jim and Sam and countless others who have graced the halls of that building is definitely a brass ring that I will reach hopefully sooner rather than later.
As for money, I’m not looking for the huge Scrooge McDuck paycheck, but getting paid well is important too. I don’t wanna do it for free, so branding and sponsors will definitely be there and a huge part of my show, helping to build that paycheck up in many ways.
“The Ham Radio Show” airs LIVE on Wednesdays on HamRadioShow.com from 6pm – 8pm EST, as well as on multiple internet radio stations.
