Dutch City’s Porn Collection MIA
LEEUWARDEN, HOLLAND — Authorities in the Dutch city of Leeuwarden have put out an all-points bulletin on the city’s missing porn collection. The municipal pornography archive — an official collection of photos, drawings and erotic texts that have historical relevance to the city — disappeared from the Leeuwarden historical center. Authorities believe the materials may have been taken home “accidentally” by an employee.
“We’re hoping that someone will say, ‘Hey, I have that in my attic’ and bring it back,” historical center spokesman Erik Krikke told The Associated Press. “No questions asked.”
Among the missing items is a rare February 1998 issue of the Dutch edition of Playboy featuring “Girls of the Elfstedentocht.” The Elfstedentocht is the country’s most popular ice-skating race, and the feature includes women from the 11 Dutch cities along the race’s route.
Other items in the collection include pictures by local photographers and artists. Krikke said though small enough to fit in a moving box, the collection had value to the community.
The erotica was assembled during the 1960s and ’70s by what Krikke described as “a fanatical curator.”
Mayor Ferd Crone said he was unaware of the archive’s existence until it disappeared.
