YNOT – 3D adult studio Dominic Ford Productions has created a new division to provide full-service 3D production to other adult companies.

According to a company statement, Dominic Ford was the first all-male adult company to release movies in 3D, the first to release its movies (both 2D and 3D) in full high-definition (1920×1080) format, and the first to offer websites tailored for iPad and Google TV users.

After winning multiple Grabby and GAYVN awards for the 3D gay sex parody Whorrey Potter and the Sorcerer’s Balls, Ford launched the new production division to assist other studios that may not have the in-house expertise or expensive equipment required for 3D productions.

“3D production requires extensive knowledge of 3D filming and editing, expertise in stereography, plus a lot of expensive equipment,” Ford said. “But it has become mainstream. While we are excited to have been the first 3D company in the all-male adult space, we know that other companies are actively thinking about joining us in creating 3D adult footage.

“There is a high barrier to entry, however, for these companies,” he added. “Even though some 3D cameras are becoming available, creating and editing 3D content isn’t as simple as point and shoot. In the same way that buying an expensive paintbrush doesn’t make you Picasso, buying a 3D camera doesn’t make you an experienced stereographer or 3D editor.

“3D is really easy to do badly, and in a way that will set the industry back. It is my hope that by providing our expertise and pro-grade equipment, we can help other companies create compelling 3D content that will help mature the 3D adult content market.”

In addition to its own explicit titles, Dominic Ford Productions also produced content for the 2010 International Mr. Leather contest and is in partnership talks with straight, gay and lesbian production companies including Juicy Pink Box. The studio also provided 3D services to European gay porn giant BelAmi for a soon-to-be-released project that features some of BelAmi’s most popular models.

To meet the 3D needs of the adult industry, Dominic Ford Productions has invested in a new main 3D rig that rivals many Hollywood studios’, as well as new 3D still photo rigs. With the new rigs, the company hopes to achieve video effects that are impossible to accomplish with other camera equipment.
