Deputy’s Porn Habit Costs Him His Job
FORT MYERS, FL — A Lee County sheriff’s deputy was fired after his porn-surfing habit tied up the department’s computer network.Corporal Scott Heimlich’s unauthorized on-the-job pursuits got him sacked July 23rd. Internal Affairs investigators said they began watching the deputy’s online activities after the department’s Tech Support Unit noticed a slowdown in the agency’s network.
“They started checking the internet proxy server and located a user [who] was accessing inappropriate video on the Internet,” Sgt. Michael Stanforth told The News-Press.
According to the IA report, 857 pornographic images were discovered on Heimlich’s computer. More than 600 of them were downloaded July 9th, the report noted.
Heimlich, 48, admitted the transgression, which violated departmental policy and constituted “conduct unbecoming an officer,” according to a department spokesperson.
The corporal had been with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office since 1998. At the time of his termination, he was assigned to the county jail’s core facility as a corrections officer.
“It is always regrettable to part company with members under unfavorable terms; however, our standards remain high and our tolerance for wrongdoing low,” Sheriff Mike Scott said in a prepared statement.
