Delusional “Porn Inspector” Pleads Guilty to Pretending to be Cop
BOULDER, CO — Andrew Libby was a man on a mission – and if he needed to break the law in order to accomplish his moral crusade, then so be it. Alas for his desire to bust porn’s alleged rampant use of minors there not only were no minors to save but pretending to be a police officer in order to save them is not something the authorities take lightly. Last July, Libby entered Mile High Emporium, convinced that it sold DVDs featuring under age performers. According to the DailyCamera.com, his attorneys contend that Libby was in a “psychotic” state when he entered the store in hopes of shutting it down.
Although some have assumed that Libby claimed to be a member of the Longmont Police Department’s non-existent “age verification unit,” attorney Kristi Sanders says that Libby suffers from bipolar disorder, shows symptoms of schizophrenia and has frequently been entered into the Colorado Mental Health Institute at Fort Logan since his August 12th arrest.
“He was very concerned that Mile High Emporium was making and selling videos with under-aged girls in them,” Sanders explains. “At the time this occurred, Mr. Libby was suffering from delusions.”
Libby’s obsessive concern was apparently triggered by a video he had watched that featured a female performer who reminded him of a 15-year-old acquaintance. Fearing that the discovery might endanger his life, he grew to believe that he required FBI protection.
At the time of the visit to Mile High Emporium in question, Libby was protecting himself at home with knives, a semi-automatic handgun and a number of large swords.
After prosecutors agreed to dismiss all other charges, confident that they were not dealing with a sex offender, the court found the 34-year-old man guilty of impersonating a police officer and sentenced him to two years probation. Libby may neither own weapons nor visit Mile High Emporium during his probation, and must get mental health treatment.
