Dawn Willow is a veteran camgirl. She’s been in the industry since 2011, starting on Flirt4Free and then moving to her current home on Chaturbate. YNOT had the pleasure of talking to Dawn recently, to find out more about her life as a camgirl and her techniques for succeeding in this very competitive industry. Here is our conversation.

YNOT: How and why did you become a camgirl, and how has your career progressed since then?

Dawn: When I was younger, I saw popup webcam ads on porn sites and thought to myself “I can do that too…”, and I did! I’ve stuck with it and never looked back since.

My mom stripped when I was younger and I never had any qualms about diving into the adult industry.

When I first started I didn’t use sound and knew nothing about lighting or maintaining stream quality. I learned a wide variety of skills over the years outside of the art of the tease and toying with myself.

YNOT: How do you set yourself apart from the competition?

Dawn: I’m very in tune with the newest toy releases and advancements in teledildonics and I’m always ready to try something new. I used to do live recorded reviews for several big name companies of fantasy toys. I am always willing to try something twice to be sure if I like it or not.

YNOT: You have risen to prominence as a successful camgirl. What are the secrets of your success? Why do people watch you rather than thousands of other camgirls?

Dawn: It’s hard to say exactly, besides being that I stick it out when the going gets tough.

I also offer variety: My room is a combination of a strip club, therapy session, teaching seminar, and comedian show all at once. People often say they feel at home in my cam room and I’ve been doing it so long that I’ve developed real, lasting friendships with many of my room members. You can’t create that in one day. It just takes time to build authentic relationships and get that kind of experience.

YNOT: What are some of the strange/funny things that have happened to you during the course of your career?

Dawn: I’ve had strange trolls. They’ve led to a yearly package of cherry flavored Poptarts sent to my P.O box, raids from twitch.tv and being tipped to make love to random objects in my room. I’ve hurt myself a dozen different ways, which always makes me laugh!

YNOT: Has the pandemic shutdown been good for your business?

Dawn: Between the political climate and the pandemic, it’s had its rocky moments making conversation online, but we always find a way to lighten up dark times. A lot of people can’t go out for the holidays and I look forward to being here for them and keeping their morale high.

YNOT: How has being a camgirl affected the rest of your life?

Dawn: Being a camgirl is a life-changing decision. Someone who you don’t want to know will always inevitably find out. I’ve been judged when dealing with people who have had this knowledge revealed to them. It’s unfortunate that there’s a stigma attached to webcamming/NSFW work, but with technology becoming more present in our everyday lives it’s becoming more common and normalized. I’ve long, long ago accepted that there are many nudes of me on the internet and there will always be. No going back!

YNOT: What are your future plans?

Dawn: To purchase land, a farm, and have my happily-ever-after. I will continue doing webcam work as long as people are willing to keep watching me, though.

YNOT: What advice do you have for aspiring camgirls?

Dawn: Know yourself, know your limits, and don’t get pushed around. Stick to your guns! Adult camming will always be an ever-learning experience. It’s okay to have a bad day or week. Just keep on trucking and you will have a day that makes it all worth it.
