Dating, Other Apps to Generate $99 Billion Annually by 2019
HAMPSHIRE, England – Revenue generated by mobile apps will account for $99 billion dollars annually by 2019, according to a new study by Juniper Research.
The report, “Apps & App Stores: Market Trends & Forecasts 2015-2019,” reveals that while games will continue to account for the largest share of revenue for the next five years, the greatest growth will occur in areas including dating and ebooks.
According to Juniper analysts, a significant portion of online dating activity already has migrated to mobile devices, with market segment accounting for four of the highest-grossing 20 iOS apps in early 2015. The figures, both number of apps and revenues generated, are expected to grow over the next four years, analysts noted.
Another noteworthy trend, according to the report, is a shift from the “freemium” model to pay-per-use or pay-per-download. Analysts predict the financial model may shift yet again, toward a subscription-based, all-you-can-consume plan.
Other findings in the report include:
- More than 235 billion apps will be downloaded worldwide during 2015.
- Baidu now operates the second-largest app store, behind Google.
- Barely 1 percent of applications require payment at the point of download.
