NY Governor Andrew Cuomo Upset Over Cleavage in Subway Ads
NEW YORK, NY — New York City may be “The Big Apple,” but NY Governor Andrew Cuomo is just saying no to big melons.
The melons in question are found on subway and station ads posted by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA). The billboard ads for Doctors Plastic Surgery feature closeups of truly stupendous boobs bursting out of skimpy tops. They’re promoting ‘Made in New York’ boob jobs for $3800 – including all fees.
After the NY Daily News made hay reporting that “subway ads touting boob jobs are outraging straphangers,” Quomo aide Howard Glaser wrote a nasty letter to MTA Chair Tom Prendergast demanding that the boobs gets bounced.
“Tens of thousands of children ride the transit system every day to go to school,” wrote Glaser. “The MTA is a public conveyance, subsidized by $190 million annually in the state budget, plus over $5 billion in dedicated taxes. The public has a right to expect that the MTA will strive for a family-friendly environment.”
As for the MTA’s initial defense, namely that the boob ads met agency standards, Glaser wasn’t satisfied.
“With all due respect, we suggest that these standards be revisited,” he wrote.
Apparently that’s exactly what’s going to happen, thanks to Glaser’s heavy-handed touting of the MTA’s state funding.
“The MTA understands the concerns that Gov. Cuomo and other parents have raised about this advertisement and about maintaining a family-friendly environment on our trains and buses,” said MTA spokesman Adam Lisberg. “We will revisit our standards for advertisements and our process for reviewing them.”
As for the people at Doctors Plastic Surgery, they’ve kept a low profile during this brouhaha, and their website makes no mention of the controversy. The price for the ‘all-in’ boob job however has been bumped up to $3900.
