Corbin Fisher Extends Amnesty Offer
YNOT – After reportedly receiving “hundreds of email messages” regarding its offer of to let bygones be bygones where copyright infringers are concerned, gay adult studio Corbin Fisher has extended its “piracy amnesty” program through March 1.
The catch? Instead of the $1,000 fee the studio exacted from torrent users who turned themselves in by the original deadline of Feb. 8, illicit file-sharers who take advantage of the offer now will need to fork over $1,900.
That still beats the $25,000 to $1.75 million Corbin Fisher has seen courts award as the result of successful copyright-infringement lawsuits within the past 12 months.
In exchange for their financial apology, the studio will release penitents from claims for past infringement. In addition, participants will receive a six-month membership at Corbin Fisher’s adult sites, including flagship CorbinFisher.com, AmateurCollegeMen.com and AmateurCollegeSex.com.
“When faced with the potential for extremely high judgments against them, this really is a more-than-fair deal we are offering to those illegally reproducing and distributing our content online,” said Corbin Fisher Chief Operating Officer Brian Dunlap. “Since offering the original amnesty period, we’ve discovered thousands more IP addresses worldwide, and we are engaging counsel in three other countries to start filing claims. We will continue to move worldwide on the industry-critical issue of piracy.
“However, we prefer to offer potential defendants the opportunity to resolve these matters relatively quickly and easily,” he continued. “While the law entitles us to considerable statutory damages in such cases and the courts have shown a willingness to deliver big judgments in favor of copyright holders, what is of paramount importance to us is that individuals admit their mistakes, commit to no longer illegally distributing and reproducing others’ intellectual property, understand the very real impact of their unlawful actions, and understand that the risk of unwelcome consequences could be so easily avoided simply by legally acquiring content like countless law-abiding individuals already do.”
