Consumers Prefer to Buy Adult Products Online
YNOT – Sixty-three percent of American adults prefer the convenience and privacy of shopping online over heading for a local store, at least when it comes to adult products and services. So says the latest data from Adam & Eve’s Great American Sex Survey.
The web-based survey, conducted by an independent third-party company, was part of an ongoing exploration of sexual preferences and practices. More than 1,000 Americans age 18 and older participated.
The results didn’t surprise A&E resident sexpert Dr. Kat Van Kirk.
“While a brick-and-mortar shop can mean instant gratification, online shopping still lends to the anonymity a lot of adults prefer when shopping for racier items,” she said. “The fact that so many online customers now order via next-day or two-day shipping means that even the delayed gratification isn’t that long of a wait.”
In the case of adult movies there’s no delay in gratification whatsoever, as most adult studios now offer streaming or downloadable versions of their content.
For those who prefer to fondle the merchandise before making a decision, today’s brick-and-mortar adult stores are a far cry from the back-alley hangouts frequented by men in trench coats during the Golden Age of Porn. Contemporary stores have embraced a more upscale vibe in recent years, becoming trendy, well-lit, friendly environments that attract as many women as men.
“Adam & Eve is pleased to be able to offer our customers the best of both online and brick-and-mortar shopping,” said Director of Marketing Chad Davis. “With over 50 retail stores spanning coast to coast, as well as our 24/7 online presence, Adam & Eve has something to meet everyone’s sexual comfort zone.”
