CNBC Schedules ‘Porn: Business of Pleasure’
ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, NJ — CNBC plans to premier an original documentary, Porn: Business of Pleasure, July 15th. The business news channel says Melissa Lee’s report is a “nothing off-limits [look at] the controversial multibillion dollar industry that aims to please but has been known to offend.”Recently estimated to generate more than $13 billion in annual revenue, the adult entertainment industry long was thought to be recession-proof. However, the internet and other technologies have eroded some of the industry’s traditional economic stability, and porn now seems to be suffering along with every other business during the current global downturn.
“The porn industry has changed technology and can be found in millions of homes, hotel rooms and hard drives across the country,” according to an announcement at CNBC.com. “BUT, the business is facing economic challenges. It’s under assault, and not just from the many critics who see it as socially corroding, degrading to women and a risk to the young.”
According to the producers, Porn: Business of Pleasure “takes an unprecedented behind-the-scenes look inside the multibillion pornography business, from the threats to its profitability to exclusive behind-the-scenes interviews with the industry’s biggest stars to the one issue that could bring the adult industry to its knees.”
Porn: Business of Pleasure is scheduled to bow at 9:00 pm July 15th and repeat at 10:00 pm July 15th and 1:00 am July 16th.
