Cloud Computing: ‘A Slice of Heaven, or Just Vapor’?
YNOT – On May 15, 2011, Pink Visual launched a new-concept adult website the technology arbiters at CNET.com said could help determine whether cloud computing services are “a slice of heaven or just vapor.” One year later, company execs said while PVLocker.com hasn’t quite reached “slice of heaven” status, the site already has left more than vapor trails.
“The concept behind PVLocker has been referred to at times by third parties as the ‘iTunes® of porn,’ but we know the site has a long way to go before it has earned that sort of comparison,” Pink Visual President Allison Vivas averred. “Having said that, we’re certainly extremely proud of the site and optimistic that it will achieve the goals we have set for it, in due time.”
Vivas said Pink Visual takes a great deal of satisfaction in knowing an adult company beat mainstream giants like Apple from the starting gate with similar cloud-storage products.
“Our customers love the convenience and flexibility of our upload function, and they really love that the video files they upload are automatically transcoded to offer cross-platform access in the future,” she noted. “While a lot of users are pretty sophisticated, it’s a nice bonus to not have to figure out how to transcode files on their own. They can just upload the original video to PVLocker and let our script handle the rest.”
Vivas said one key to PVLocker’s continuing success is convincing adult studios and other content providers to embrace cloud storage, particularly where it intersects with the notion of “community.” Another is to continue building on the site’s existing functionality.
“We know from operating video-on-demand sites that video sites tend to sell better as more content is added, and we know that PVLocker customers want more than just Pink Visual’s content, so it is crucial that we continue to bring more studios on board,” Vivas averred. “The data clearly show that when we add new content, sales increase.
“We already have outstanding content partners in Wasteland, Smash Pictures, Sssh.com, Private, Demolition, Grind House and Acid Rain,” she continued. “We just need to sign on additional studios of the same caliber in order to satisfy consumer demand for more variety without sacrificing on the quality of the content we offer.”
In order to celebrate the site’s anniversary, PVLocker is offering a free scene to all existing customers and new customers who sign-up by May 30. Webmasters can monetize consumer experience through Pink Visual’s TopBucks Mobile affiliate program, which pays up to $25 per sign-up or 60-percent recurring revenue share.
