City Council Hopes to See Nude Car Wash Go Bust
AUSTRALIA — Dirty cars washed dirt cheap at the Bubbles ‘n’ Babes car wash will be a thing if the past if the Brisbane City Council has its way with the business, which employees nude car wash attendants.According to Warren Armstrong, owner of Bubbles ‘n’ Babes, the council has handed him a show-cause notice that he expects will lead to the closing of his light-hearted service.
At issue is whether Bubbles ‘n’ Babes has the proper permits to legal engage in the complex business of washing cars. Its right to engage in detailing thanks to a workshop permit is not argued, however.
Although Armstrong insists that he had been led to believe that his car wash was entirely legal, he has removed high pressure gurnies, which are not allowed under the permit.
In spite of the fact that he does not believe the council is interested in an explanation, he intends to fight any punitive action that it may direct his way. “Their argument is saying that we have approval for a workshop but not a car wash, and clearly we’ve got advice that a workshop is to maintain, service, to detail and to wash cars.”
Councilor David McLachlan contends that Armstrong has exploited a loophole in the Town Plan. “If your intention is to open up a drive-in lap-dance venue and you apply for approval for a mechanical workshop, is this being genuinely honest in terms of your intentions?”
Armstrong clearly thinks such arguments are misdirected, given that he insists that “This is all about a moral thing. If it wasn’t for the topless, nude thing and all these goody-two-shoes and religious whatevers.”
