Christian Values Group Representatives Say Porn Fuels Slave Trade
CYBERSPACE – Daniel Weiss, a “Media and Sexuality Analyst” for extreme conservative censorship group Focus on the Family, was quoted on the website for “Family News in Focus” as saying that pornography is a kind of slave trade.”We are creating a market for the trafficking of persons,” Weiss said. “That’s precisely what pornography is; it’s the turning of a person into a commodity, to then be bought or sold.”
The article’s author, Washington correspondent Bill Wilson, seemed to agree with Weiss’ outlandish claims.
“Activist judges often rule unconstitutional the laws Congress passes to stop pornography,” read the article. “All the while, the America that stands for freedom has become a chief contributor to the international slave trade.”
The article came on the heels of an “obscenity law enforcement” forum held Thursday morning for congressional staff in Washington D.C. The forum attracted several Republican Members of Congress as guest speakers, including Sen. Sam Brownback of Kansas and Rep. Katherine Harris of Florida.
Wilson’s article did not stop at slavery, however. It contained other outlandish statements about the nature of pornography.
“Though many believe pornography is a harmless pastime, it’s estimated that more than 20 million Americans are addicted to it,” he wrote, but pointed to no scientific study to back up this claim.
The only evidence Wilson offered in support of this bizarre assertion was a quote from a controversial physiatrist, Dr. Jeffrey Satinover.
“Pornography is a delivery system, if you will, for a complicated set of behaviors that lead to self-destructive, compulsive and addictive patterns,” Satinover was quoted as saying.
Dr. Satinover’s website includes links to pathinfo.org, a Catholic website that promotes “Positive Alternatives to Homosexuality,” and links to an article that asks if liberalism causes brain damage.
