‘Christian’ Breaks into Churches, Watches Internet Porn
YNOT – My God, it’s an epidemic: An Oklahoma man has become the second in two weeks to be arrested after breaking into a church to have a religious experience with porn — and this guy’s a Christian.Police charged Nathanael Christian, 21, with four counts of second-degree burglary after he allegedly broke into Trinity Baptist Church, First Assembly of God, St. Catherine Catholic Church and First Church of God on at least eight different occasions and used the churches’ internet connections to view online pornography. He also is accused of using one church’s telephone to make $300-worth of calls to phone-sex services. Christian stole laptop computers during two of the break-ins, according to police reports.
Pauls Valley Detective Derrick Jolley said Christian never attended any of the churches he burglarized. When asked why he targeted the houses of worship, Christian responded, “my family has always been very religious.”
The young man had “a look on his face that indicated it made sense to him,” Jolley said.
Christian is being held in the Garvin County jail. Jolley said he admitted to the crimes and told officers where to find the missing laptops.
On March 8, Ames, Iowa, resident Charles E. Bentley, 55, was arrested after police caught him removing food, electronic equipment, clothes and kitchen utensils from the First Christian Church across the street from the cop shop. Officers found pornographic DVDs on Bentley at the time of his arrest, and the reports filed afterward indicated Bentley used the church’s audiovisual equipment to view the XXX-rated movies while he camped out overnight in the building’s basement.
