Cherry Media, MiKandi Partner on Content Solution for Adult Apps
YNOT – Barcelona-based Cherry Media S.L., a leader in mobile erotic entertainment, and Seattle-based MiKandi, an adult mobile application marketplace, have launched a service designed to assist members of MiKandi’s App Developer Network in obtaining legal adult content.
The idea behind the service is this: When members sign on to the MiKandi Developer Network, they sign a pact agreeing to adhere to U.S. laws and regulations. Chief among the laws and regulations at issue are those concerning 18 USC §2257 documentation and intellectual property, notably copyright. To that end, developers affirm the content they distribute via their apps complies with 2257 requirements and they either own the material or they have licensed it from its owner.
The two affirmations are closely related. If app content is not 2257-compliant, developers could run into serious trouble with U.S. law-enforcement officials. Unlicensed content is by its very nature not 2257-compliant, because it’s difficult to obtain the proper documentation for pirated material.
If a copyright owner finds his or her material in an app offered at MiKandi and determines the app’s developer holds no authorized license, the copyright owner can send the network a takedown notice under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, requesting the application be removed from the marketplace. Repeated infractions lead to removal of the developer from the network.
To ensure developers with good ideas for new apps have a ready supply of legal material, Cherry Media is offering members of the MiKandi App Developer Network access to its extensive, award-winning library of consumer-focused content and concepts as well as the company’s global database of glamour, erotic and adult producers.
According to a spokesperson, “The unique partnership offers a range of content services to effectively accommodate every type of adult app business model.”
The partnership’s services cover everything from cost-effective content packs for simple gallery-type applications to conceptual app content creation and turnkey production facilities providing a range of recognized producers and performers.
“Obviously we have been actively supporting and promoting MiKandi since their launch at the end of 2009, especially in light of the Apple App Store bikini app removal in February 2010,” said Julia Dimambro, founder and managing director of Cherry Media. “We always expected that we would work together as the app market developed, given our market positions.
“However, this new service really answers a current demand in the market place,” she continued. “The bandwagon run to develop and launch apps has highlighted the need for a more strategic and conceptual approach to erotic app development, especially as many developers are working with fixed budgets and monetization is still challenging.”
Tim Adams, head of developer relations at MiKandi, said he expects the new service to broaden the scope of apps available in the marketplace as developers with great ideas discover the wealth of ready content Cherry Media offers.
“We have an extensive network of developers, many of whom have fantastic concepts and ideas for applications but are not necessarily able to realize those ideas due to content logistical issues,” he said. “Cherry Media not only can offer various content solutions, but also can help developers actively optimize their app concepts utilising Cherry’s eight years of targeted experience in global mobile adult consumer trends.”
