Charitable Donation from Porn Companies Turned Down by Hospital
TORRANCE, CA – Finances at the Family Medical Division of the Harbor UCLA Hospital are apparently excellent these days. If not, they’re apparently solid enough that the hospital’s board of directors can justify turning away sizable donations earmarked for poor families.Georgia Miles has spent the past three years trying to get mainstream companies to donate substantial amounts of money to worthy causes. After sending out 25 letters of request, every company she had contacted, except for Costco, claimed poverty. Costco donated three rolls of wrapping paper. Frustrated by the poor show of support from the mainstream, the former freelance writer and adult production manager turned to the adult industry for help.
Among those who opened their wallets for the cause were Hustler Magazine publisher Larry Flynt, director of operations for Vivid Entertainment Group Marci Hirsch, AVN Magazine president Paul Fishbein, and Wicked Pictures’ VP of special projects Joy King.
Unfortunately, Miles’ sense of triumph was short-lived since the Family Medical Division, upon learning of the donations’ source, promptly turned it away. When Miles attempted to deliver the donations to the hospital’s accounting department, one office worker, recognizing the Wicked Pictures name, confided that the medical facility had to be careful about where its donated money came from.
Miles, whose efforts have been met with little response from the mainstream, and now rejection from same, says she has “washed my hands of the whole thing.”
