Canadians Take Their Kart Racing Seriously
MONTREAL – If there’s one thing participants in the Montreal leg of the 2014 YNOT Grand Prix learned during Thursday night’s event, it’s that officials at the city’s topnotch Kart-O-Mania track are serious about providing a legitimate, if scaled down, Formula One-like experience.
“There were lots of flags thrown for slowing down the track in the curves,” race coordinator and YNOT Group Vice President Jay Kopita said. “That’s one of the reasons I don’t race anymore. Some of the seasoned competitors are balls to the wall when they get behind the wheel. They’ll run right over anybody who gets in their way.
“As I’m getting older, I can’t keep up with the younger, more agile people who compete, so I sat this one out,” he continued. “I find my stamina isn’t what it used to be. But the drivers who did have what it takes were exceptional in Montreal this year.”
Despite the flags, the race ran “extremely well,” Kopita said. Fans cheered 35 drivers as they battled for the best times in each heat.
“The drivers in Montreal for Qwebec Expo — mostly Canadians and Americans — weren’t nearly as cutthroat as the Europeans,” Kopita observed. “Still, this was a difficult leg because the track is challenging. Ask Evan from Ashley Madison. Someone clipped him, and he slammed into a wall. I think that rattled him a little, but he was a good sport about the whole thing.”
In the end, three competitors claimed bragging rights:
- First place: Stinger from Hustler
- Second place: Juicy Jay, founder and owner of JuicyAds
- Third place: Erik B. from Your Paysite Partner
The YNOT Grand Prix’s Montreal leg was presented by JuicyAds with additional sponsorship from Dating Factory, FN Cash, Badoink, Paxum and WebcamWiz.
The final event of the 2014 season, also presented by JuicyAds, will take place Sept. 22 in Prague as the official kickoff for The European Summit.
