This Camgirl’s Making Bank Using Sign Language in Her Shows
One camgirl has discovered her niche: American Sign Language during cam sessions! Crystal Rivers, a 21-year-old cammer, told Metro UK, “I’m the only webcam model that I know of who also knows ASL. I’m opening up a whole new world for people. ‘I want all my fans to be able to properly communicate with me.’”
Rivers learned sign language in elementary school, she says, after an introductory lesson piqued her interest.
“After having a lesson at school when I was eight, I remember reading that more than 5 percent of the world have hearing loss and thinking, ‘That’s a lot of the world I can’t communicate with.’” She decided to change that, and spent the next ten years becoming fluent in ASL.
After high school she got a job at Disney World, where Rivers found her signing skills came in handy.
“If customers ever didn’t respond to me, I tried signing, just in case, and if they were deaf or hearing impaired, their eyes would light up,” she revealed to The Daily Star.
When a friend told her about webcamming, Rivers decided to give it a try. She found she enjoyed it, and soon quit her day job to cam full-time. “The idea to incorporate ASL into her raunchy videos came by chance, when she was looking up how to say a particular word on camera one day in a sign language book she owned,” reported Metro UK. “A user who had logged in to watch her had asked if she knew sign language so. The pair soon struck up conversation, leading to more and more deaf fans logging in to watch her.”
Now, she uses sign language regularly during her shows.
“I still sign along when I’m talking dirty or moaning. It can feel a bit silly, but that way, all my fans can hear me,” Rivers said. And her handiwork is paying off. Crystal told Metro UK that she earns an average of $3,000 to $6,000 per a month, but has taken home as much as $10,000.
Rivers cams for a variety of sites, like TeddysGirls and Chaturbate, and has videos on ManyVids and Pornhub. She also does non-explicit streaming at Twitch.
Her popularity just goes to show that everyone wants access to adult entertainment—and the hearing impaired are no exception. We think it’s great that their needs are being met, and that everybody is walking away happy. Ms. Rivers is making the world better, one signed moan at a time!
