Bree Mills Behind the Scenes with Adult Time
They’re one of the most popular porn streamers out there, with over 300 channels, 55,000 episodes, and 8 releases a day. They can easily boast exclusive and original series as part of their roster as well as an extensive catalog from top studios. On top of it, they’ve scored coveted publicity from mainstream publications such as Rolling Stone, The Washington Post, Forbes and more.
This subscription-based platform with the hook, “Porn done differently” is Adult Time.
This week I was able to speak with Bree Mills, the Chief Creative Officer of Adult Time and an award-winning Film Director, writer and producer of Gamma Entertainment to give us sneak peek on what Adult Time’s journey to success has looked like and how they got where they are today.
How did Adult Time get its start?
Bree Mills: As a creative, I felt very inspired by the level of talent in our industry, both cast and crew, and I had all these ideas for different projects in my head – but many of them didn’t fit the stereotypical studio mold. Some were experimental pilots or seasons of a show vs. standalone sites with recurring updates. I also wanted to extend my work to include performers from different backgrounds and move away from the rigidity of niches.
So, I brought my vision for Adult Time to my partners back in 2017. As entertainment habits evolve, I imagined a centralized streaming service that could house all our audiences in one place and become a destination for all-inclusive premium adult programming. Luckily, this vision was supported and added to by other great thinkers at our company and, together, we’ve built Adult Time into the success it is today.
What was your vision for Adult Time and how is it different than other streamers out there?
Our vision is to be an all-inclusive platform, meaning that we offer high quality channels and original series to fans of all sexuality and gender preferences. Our catalog includes over 60,000 releases, alongside our award-winning and thought-provoking feature films. When it comes to originality, creativity, quality, and compassion for the talent we work with, we aim to be the best in the business.
How do you stay competitive in not only the streaming wars but in the adult industry?
By placing equal emphasis on fostering creativity and quality within our different projects and cultivating safe and positive experiences for everyone Adult Time works with. When everyone involved is passionate about the content, it shows in the final product.
How were you able to grow Adult Time to over 300 channels?
As per our vision, we have built great relationships with content producers and adult brands from all over the world and offer them exposure on our platform, while also investing heavily in our studio and original programming.
How do you decide what films and shows go on your platform?
Our decision to onboard new partners or green light original projects boils down to a few key factors: do they fit with our values, what is the perceived interest with our existing subscribers, what is the potential interest from new subscribers, and can we use those projects to help bring exposure to important subjects, trendy kinks, marginalized communities, and/or talent development.
Do you have plans to do in-house content and if so, would you ever partner with studios or models to develop new ideas for exclusive shows?
We do not have plans to regularly shoot at-home amateur content, but we regularly collaborate with talent in our productions. I recently finished co-directing a feature film with one of our most popular stars, who also wrote the script based on her real-life experiences. I wouldn’t be against green lighting a project created by a talent if the series fit our criteria and seemed like a good fit.
You guys really are great at promotion. Can you share how you’ve been able to get so much advertising in mainstream magazines?
We have been fortunate enough to attract the attention of major media outlets like Rolling Stone, Esquire, Forbes, and The Daily Beast because they approached us to write about our work. I guess we just make interesting content that people want to talk about, and we believe in what we do. No special recipe!
How does a studio get to be promoted as one of your “supported Adult Time studios?”
To become an official Adult Time studio, you are either a proprietary studio that we own, or we have entered into a formal partnership with your brand.
What is the biggest challenge about running your day-to-day business and how do you combat negatives?
We have built a large content engine at this point, while simultaneously setting very high standards for how we produce our content and conduct ourselves in the industry. This demands a lot of focus and energy, which can sometimes be overwhelming. But we are committed to our mission to do porn differently and firmly believe that our positive influence can help elevate our industry as a whole.
What goals do you have for the future of Adult Time?
To continue to strive for inclusivity and become a trusted household name for paying porn fans, no matter what kind of content you enjoy!
