Brandon Shalton Receives ASACP Service Recognition Award
LOS ANGELES, CA – At last week’s Xbiz Awards, the Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection (ASACP) announced that Brandon Shalton, President of Cydata Services, was the recipient of this year’s ASACP Service Recognition Award. The award acknowledges Shalton’s efforts since coming on as ACACP’s CTO in 2003, including the development of technology tools utilized by ASACP, including spidering technology which verifies that each Approved Member of ASACP complies with the ASACP Code of Ethics.
“This is my 3rd year in working with ASACP in providing technology and consulting to assist in their agenda of removing CP websites from the internet,” Shalton told YNOT. “ASACP has gained acceptance from some state AG offices and state FBI offices for the data that it collects on CP websites.”
Shalton added that he feels the ASACP still doesn’t get as much support from the industry at large as it should.
“There is a great list of sponsors and members of ASACP.org from the adult online entertainment industry, but that list should be much larger,” Shalton said. “There is a lot of good work that goes on behind the scenes that help to demonstrate to government and law enforcement agencies that the adult industry does not have anything to do with CP. It is unfortunate that some misunderstandings and sometimes lack of informed facts of what ASACP does causes some webmasters to not support this organization.”
“I could certainly spend my time focused on money making ventures,” Shalton said, “but the ASACP mission is a great one and one that does produce results. I extend an invitation to those that want to know more about ASACP to contact Joan or myself.”
ASACP executive director Joan Irvine noted that like most other nonprofits, ASACP is “dependent upon the generosity of others”.
“I wish to thank Alec Helmy for starting ASACP, the Advisory Council members for donating their time, the Sponsors for their financial contributions and of course, Brandon Shalton. His technology and dedication to the ASACP has allowed ASACP to be more effective in its mission,” Irvine said.
According to ASACP’s press release, Shalton’s daily work on behalf of ASACP continues, including frequent modifications to the ASACP membership system to incorporate new features. Shalton’s work modifying the CPHotline.org for P2Patrol led to ASACP being named to the 2005 Associations Advance America Honor Roll, a national awards competition sponsored by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE), and a Certificate of Recognition from California Assembly Member Paul Koretz.
