Brad Mitchell on the Evolution of the Online Adult Space
PHOENIX – MojoHost founder and owner Brad Mitchell has been around a long time. After breaking into the adult industry in 1999, hosting “a few customers on some servers that I had in the datacenter,” he launched MojoHost in 2002.
Since then, he’s watched the industry experience some monumental changes. Thumbnail gallery posts, or TGPs, once the premier way to drive adult traffic, gave way to 10- to 15-second video clips. At the time, a significant portion of the industry scoffed at offering video for sale on the web.
Tube sites arose in 2008, Mitchell said, causing another seismic shift in business models. Now, he’s watching as live interaction overtakes pre-recorded content and large ad networks aggregate traffic that used to be churned by affiliates.
“Today, it’s a different landscape,” Mitchell said. “You can find virtually everything online for free, which means those who have survived have had to find some special creativity to make things work and stand out from the pack.”
Many can’t. Mitchell said he sees “a new group of faces” very four or five years. Each new crop of potential adult industry moguls builds upon the successes and failures of the previous generation. MojoHost’s role rapidly is evolving to meet challenges entrepreneurs may not even recognize yet.
Mitchell has much more to say in the YNOT VIP Quickies episode below.
