Booble Logo on Winning Sports Car Rattles Some During Races
LOS ANGELES, CA — What a difference a nipple makes – or made during the recent Sports Car Club of America (SCA) GTLite race at Heartland Park Topeka. The winning car was driven by Peter Zekert, who drove the Booble Racing Nissan 200SX to victory after placing second during qualifications with a time of 1:59.750 on the 14 turn course. Although Zekert took the lead early and maintained it throughout the race, radio malfunctions meant that he didn’t know how big his three car lead was until after his win. He hopes to repeat the victory this fall, when he takes the wheel for Team Booble again during the SCCA National Championship Runoff Races, to be held on the same track.
In addition to driving the Nissan 200SX again, Zekert also plans on proudly bearing the Booble adult search engine and porn directory logo on his vehicle again, as well.
According to Zekert, who became the Booble car driver in 2005, the simple line drawing that makes up the word “Booble” and its breast shaped “oo’s” rattled a few race cages long before the recent event. “A week before my first race as the Booble car,” he explains, “I got calls from the SCCA headquarters and from the Executive Steward telling me I could not run as the car appeared in the web site.” To drive the point home, at 7:00am on race day, Stewards appeared t his trailer to tell him he could not run.
Not one to accept defeat easily, Zekert pointed out an area in the race rules that allows advertisements and graphics that are in “good taste and do not interfere with identification marks and SCCA logos.”
In time, the Chief Steward took Zekert aside and admitted he didn’t care what the driver did with his car, but that he was getting “a lot of heat from upstairs” to find a way to keep the Booble car’s boobs off the track. He proposed that covering the logo’s nipples might be an acceptable compromise, so Zekert used white vinyl to cover the offending illustration elements.
Amusingly enough, during the afternoon, two women who worked in the hospitality area visited Wal-Mart and purchased bicycle streamers, which they converted into tassels for the front logo. They took black tape and covered the breasts on the side of the car, finishing their work of art with the word “Censored.”
A visit from the chief steward prior to each race to tell him he couldn’t run the car became something of a tradition for Zekert during the 2005 race season. Nonetheless, he didn’t miss even one of the 13 races of the year, including the year-end championship runoffs on SpeedTV.
This year, the Booble Race Team grew to include other drivers and cars, with Zekert working with series promoters and marketing officials, in addition to Drift and Formula D drivers.
