Black Widow Media Accused of Raising Video Piracy Flag
UNITED STATES – When GGG Film and John Thompson Productions ended their professional relationship with Black Widow Media on February 1, 2005, after a failure to pay dispute, they thought that their conflicts would be over. According to the two companies, however, such has not been the case. In fact, if things go according to plan, the three legal entities will soon meet in the courtroom. Both GGG Film and John Thompson Productions insist that Black Widow Media has continued to distribute their products without permission and in spite of the fact that their contract has been terminated. In fact, the two claim that Black Widow Media has actually added titles to its distribution list and issued press releases for unauthorized titles – all while devoid of appropriate 2257 paperwork.
To anyone who might have purchased or considered purchasing any of these titles, GGG Films’ Kerstin Gotzmann claims that “Black Widow Media is not an authorized distributor of John Thompson Production, nor GGG Films, in the US or any other market.” Gotzmann says that the companies are preparing to send certified letters to retail and wholesale distributors to make sure that they know about the situation and can respond accordingly. Any businesses that continue to sell product acquired through unofficial channels risk “being served as a defendant in a civil lawsuit.”
GGG Films and John Thompson Productions have vowed to resolve this matter in a court of law and are preparing to file suit against Black Widow Media, its officers, and any company that participates in the allegedly illegal distribution of their titles.
