Bills to Target Parents of Kids Who Accidentally See Porn?
EDINBURGH, SCOTLAND — Women’s groups in Scotland are mad as hell about the shameful volume of hardcore pornography available to children online, and they want someone to pay.In fact, they want everyone to pay — or at least parents who fail to supervise their children’s internet activities.
A couple of pending laws target cyber-pervs who deliberately show naughty images to minors, but Scottish Women’s Aid and Rape Crisis Scotland say the laws don’t go far enough. The groups want the laws amended to include penalties for parents whose children are exposed to porn — intentionally or accidentally.
“Children are powerless, and we have to protect them by ensuring people are held accountable,” Louise Johnson, a spokeswoman for Women’s Aid told the Sunday Mail.
So far ministers have resisted the group’s appeals, saying they were wary of criminalizing parental behavior in the case of older children who might seek the porn themselves.
