Bijou Theatre ‘Staying Hard’ in January, Not November
YNOT – Due to what it calls “overwhelming interest by numerous other adult businesses,” Chicago’s legendary Bijou Theatre has rescheduled its 40th anniversary “Staying Hard” celebration for January. Originally, the gala event was to have taken place in November.
“In response to offers to participate in this momentous occasion and to make it an even bigger celebration, it was decided to reschedule the Nov. 18 event,” a theater statement noted. “The iconic erotic Bijou Theatre is pleased to announce that the gay sexuality landmark will formally celebrate its 40th anniversary at … 1349 North Wells St. in Chicago on Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011.”
Since 1970, the Bijou has operated 24/7/365 as a gay adult consumer entertainment spot, making it the oldest continuously operating gay adult destination in the U.S. Together with equally venerable sister company Bijou Video — among the largest suppliers of vintage gay erotica in the country — the theater decided 40 years deserved a party to remember.
“A gay porn theater and sex club in business 40 years? Impossible! Unheard of!” Bijou founder Steven Toushin said. “Most businesses don’t last half as long. I gotta tell ya, it’s been a hell of a ride through the busts [by local authorities], the federal government[’s obscenity prosecutions], the internet…. I have no idea how I’ve done it. What I do know is that I’m so very proud that Bijou has serviced, given sexual satisfaction to, about five to five-and-one-half million gay men in its 40 years.
“It’s also fabulous to think that the Bijou must hold the world record for cocks sucked and asses fucked,” he added. “That’s a lot of hard dick and ass. The theater is still the best at [what it does], and it’s adding daily to its record.”
The January event, which in the interest of surprise remains a bit hush-hush as far as lineup, will incorporate “hot men, gay sexual history, great music, new friendships and an overall night to be remembered,” Toushin said. Sponsors include ManPlay.com, SexSearch, RedlightCenter’s BijouGay3D.com and BeaMonstar Products’ SexVoltz.com.
Toushin also said the Bijou family of gay erotic properties is expanding into new media as it begins its 41st year. Bijou offers a comprehensive line of gay vintage erotica via mail order, web and mobile media. A new website, TribalMale.com, features exclusive fetish content and is available for affiliate promotion through the SpiceCash affiliate network. The company and its principals have beenb committed to gay sexuality and the adult entertainment industry overall for four decades and will continue to provide relevant consumer and webmaster-centric offers well into the future, Toushin promised.
