Bella Thorne’s Porn Directorial Debut Made a Splash. Will the Buzz Last?
Bella Thorne, a former Disney kid turned grown-up actor, model, author, and social media personality, has made her directorial debut… on Pornhub.
Her short film, “Her & Him,” is a part of Pornhub’s Visionary Directors series, is “a very beautiful, ethereal, neon type of vision,” said Thorne in an interview she filmed for Pornhub on the topic. Her original vision, she continued, was to make “a Christmas movie,” but since Pornhub was the first to show interest in it, well…
CNN reported that the film “depicts an edgy twenty-something guy who stumbles upon a surprise text in his girlfriend’s phone, interrupting their morning routine and spinning everything into an out-of-control sexually charged encounter.”
The film will debut next month at Germany’s Oldenburg Film Festival, then be released on Pornhub Premium for paying members. But the (mostly) SFW trailer is out now, and it’s…something. Starring Abella Danger and Small Hands, “Her & Him” looks like a high-concept nightmare with intense sexual chemistry…and a fake search engine named “Gargle.”
The media is, predictably, losing its mind about the former Disney Channel star making her directorial debut. But Thorne has never been afraid of getting dark or sexual. And, as a long-time entertainer with lots of experience in front of a camera, she may actually know more about directing than many first-time porn directors do. And, given that Pornhub no doubt decided to work with her because of the media hubbub “Her & Him” was sure to cause, we feel certain the smut site gave her their utmost in attention, support, and budget.
Pornhub’s Visionaries line of films is the company’s move to work with big-name, headline-grabbing directors that will grab headlines and, by default, convert those headlines into views. As Alex McLevy at AV Club wrote, “Noble Pornhub, willing to sacrifice a small amount of money to do a splashy and attention-getting short with one of the biggest social-media stars in America.”
Still, Thorne’s debut looks pretty impressive. The story looks disturbing and evocative, and with Danger and Small Hands onscreen, the sex is sure to be fantastic. Then again, with competition for high-concept, artistic, and daring porn films at an all-time high with Bree Mills’s edgy, high-production-value work, Angie Rowntree’s award-winning feature films, and more high-end pornographic fare all on the market, Thorne’s up against stiffer competition than she may have bargained for.
