ASACP Releases Best Practices for Mobile Adult Sites, Apps
YNOT – With the buzz surrounding mobile distribution of adult content these days, the Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection has added mobile guidelines to its list of best practices for adult content distributors. ASACP’s overall guidelines were developed to help adult businesses assist parents in protecting their children from age-restricted content on the internet.“According to a recent report from the Kaiser Family Foundation, two-thirds of all kids ages 8-18 have their own cell phone,” said ASACP Chief Executive Officer Joan Irvine. “Therefore, a lot more scrutiny is being placed on how children can access mobile adult content. This is why we have updated our Best Practices for Mobile Adult Sites and Mobile Applications.
“Granted there are no perfect solutions, but ASACP’s Best Practices are the best tools available to protect children and your company,” she added. “We encourage everyone, whether they are an ASACP member or not, to review them regularly [on our website].”
The guidelines include:
Make a good-faith effort to comply with the current laws and standard of recordkeeping put forth by your government.
Include the statement that “All models were 18 and over at the time of the creation of such depictions” in a prominent position on the following website pages: warning, home, splash, join and any other page that allows direct access from outside the site.
If the models look young, include the age disclaimer on all mobile version pages.
Include, on your mobile website’s homepage and/or index page, a notice that the contents of the site are for viewing by adults only. Also include disclaimers, age verification, etc.
If your site has a warning page, exclude explicit images on that page to prevent children from viewing adult material.
Label your website, including all pages that offer mobile adult applications, as “adult” using an established labeling system such as ASACP’s Restricted to Adults – RTA Website Label program or other metadata recognizable by filtering software, browsers, etc.
Label all e-marketing material “Sexually Explicit.”
