Anti-Porn Forces Set to Obsess During White Ribbon Week
COLORADO SPRINGS, CO — At least three Right Wing morality groups with a strange obsession concerning what other people do when their clothes are off are preparing for the 20th anniversary celebration of their annual public display of anti pornography sentiment.According to a press release distributed by Focus on The Family, the White Ribbon Against Pornography Campaign was started by Norma Harris, a Pennsylvania woman convinced that erotic materials are responsible for a laundry list of social and moral ills.
With the eager assistance of Morality in Media, more people than ever became aware of the presence of sexually explicit entertainment.
For the 20th anniversary of the so-far-unsuccessful event, Focus on the Family, Morality in Media, and American Mothers, Inc. plan collaborate in an attempt to finally “encourage concerned citizens throughout this nation to join forces against the flood of pornography devastating our land.”
Morality in Media president Robert Peters urges his followers to “use WRAP Week as a ‘kick off’ for a year-long effort to raise public awareness about the pornography problem and to make both political parties aware of the need to enforce federal obscenity laws.”
While some might suggest that moral mouthpieces would be better shepherding their own sex-focused and sometimes publicly inappropriate flock, Peters frets that the nation might have another Janet Reno as Attorney General. Peters holds Reno responsible for diverting the government’s attention toward matters other than sniffing out real or imagined incidents of obscenity.
Supporters of free speech and expression may be encouraged to know that Peters isn’t certain whether his “worthy cause can survive another 8 – 10 years with no enforcement of federal obscenity laws.”
Peters opines that his lack of confidence stems from what he insists is “a disturbingly larger number of our nation’s youth and young adults” who are “viewing pornography, and they don’t even see this as a moral problem!”
Although some worry that America’s youths may become embroiled in an endless war that may ultimately include a draft, Peters’ focus is upon the presumable tarnish to the souls of those who view adults engaged in mutually consensual sexual activity. While he admits that “President Bush’s record on enforcement of federal obscenity laws has been a disappointment” he reminds his fervent followers that “the Bush record is clearly superior to the Clinton record, and we will be working to encourage the Bush Administration to pick up the pace of obscenity prosecutions, with the hope that the next President will build on that progress.”
The White Ribbon Against Pornography Week runs from Sunday, October 28th through November 4th and is meant to help provide those who find pornography offensive with a way to publicly express their opinions in hopes of putting more people in jail and driving the adult industry out of business.
WRAP supporters will “don white ribbons as a symbol of purity and a sign of their commitment to standards of public morality and the enforcement of obscenity laws.”
Given the recent high profile sexploits of some moral eagles, wearing a white ribbon may be the only way to tell them apart from the rest of the population.
