Anti-Piracy Digital Fingerprinting Comes to Adult
LOS ANGELES – An anti-piracy tool the developers call an “exclusive digital fingerprinting program” has exited beta-testing and is now available across the adult entertainment spectrum.
The technology is part of Takedown Piracy’s Nemesis program, which helps content owners protect their investments by analyzing tube sites to pinpoint content that likely has been pirated. According to Takedown Piracy’s Nate Glass, the fingerprinting program helped remove 110,043 videos from possibly infringing websites during its beta period, which began in November.
“Takedown Piracy’s digital fingerprinting technology is nothing short of a catalyst for change,” said Dr. Chauntelle Tibbals, a sociologist and the author of Exposure: A Sociologist Explores Sex, Society, and Adult Entertainment. “Our wider culture continues to disregard the adult industry as a marginalized ‘other,’ partly because it devalues its products.
“Though the industry is, and must be, in a constant state of evolution, one that corresponds with evolutions occurring in wider society, Takedown Piracy’s digital fingerprinting process will help prevent further de-evolutions into unabated thievery,” she added.
Glass said the industry’s adoption of the technology has been better than expected.
“I’m extremely passionate about the program, but to see my colleagues in the industry match my enthusiasm for what this fingerprinting service means to the industry is truly humbling,” he said. “Cooperation is key in the war against piracy, and as an industry working together, we can truly make a difference.”
In May alone, he noted, the combination of Nemesis and the fingerprinting tool assisted in the removal of 47,782 allegedly infringing videos from tube sites.
“We removed more tube videos last month than we used to take down in an entire year,” Glass said. “Even more impressive than the volume of removals is how these pirated videos are being caught within hours of being posted.”
The service is available to all content creators, including DVD producers, pay site owners and webcam operations.
