American Men Prefer to Watch Porn Alone
HILLSBOROUGH, NC – When it comes to indulging in erotic entertainment, American men apparently value privacy. That’s one conclusion adult products retailer Adam & Eve drew from responses to the company’s latest monthly survey of American sexual attitudes and practices.
When surveyors asked more than 1,000 American adults ages 18 and up whether they prefer watching X-rated movies alone or with a partner, 45 percent of the male respondents indicated they watch alone. Thirty-one percent of men said they enjoy watching with a partner, and 23 percent indicated they don’t watch porn.
The data were almost reversed among women: 21 percent said they watch porn solo, 33 percent prefer to watch with a partner, and 45 percent denied watching X-rated content at all.
Dr. Kat Van Kirk, Adam & Eve’s resident sexpert, said she finds the middle number for both groups encouraging.
“While it’s no surprise that most men watch adult movies alone and most women do not watch adult movies, the large percentage who prefer to view erotic materials together is indicative of positive sexual communication,” she said. “Many couples who watch erotica together are inspired to talk about their desires and feelings, and ultimately try new things together.”
Director of Marketing Chad Davis said the survey results are worthy of note by content producers: While male-centric “gonzo”-style porn seems ever-popular, softer, more sex-positive material can find a significant audience.
“Adam & Eve goes to great measures to make sure its adult content represents a healthy image of sexuality,” Davis said. “Whether our customers prefer to order a DVD through our catalog or website, or watch Adam & Eve’s video-on-demand channel, they can rest assured the content is sex-positive.”
