AL Adult Retailer Star of New Reality TV Series
HUNTSVILLE, AL — Sherri Williams, owner of three Alabama adult-oriented boutiques, is starring in a new reality series about her nine year struggle against the state’s ban on the sale of adult toys.Williams told the local media that the series is being produced by Jon Hotchkiss, a former writer for the television program Politically Incorrect with comedian Bill Maher and a producer for the show Bull****, starring magicians Penn and Teller. It is unknown what network the show will run on.
Alabama outlawed the sale of sex toys under the 1998 Anti-Obscenity Enforcement Act, sponsored by Democratic Senator Tom Madison. The law, which has yet to be enforced, can lead to a $10,000 fine or a year in jail just for selling a vibrator. The law does not prohibit possession of such toys, just the sale of them.
The ban could be enforced for the first time on October 1st, if the Supreme Court chooses not to hear Williams’ challenge. Williams’ attorneys have argued that the U.S. Constitution protects “sexual privacy.”
Williams owns two stores in Huntsville and one in Decatur.
