Christmas in July! Advent Calendars are (Almost) Sold Out
It’s only July, but EDC Wholesale is reporting that its 2020 limited edition “Naughty & Nice Advent Calendar” has almost sold out. This, in spite of reports that the production run was double the size of 2019’s.
So we’re clear, an Advent calendar is a special calendar used to count the days of Advent — expectant waiting and preparation for Christmas. Christmas! Since the start of Advent varies, falling between November 27 and December 3, many calendars split the difference and begin on December 1.
Again, so we’re clear: The Christmas countdown calendar — an item that anticipates December — with double last year’s run is almost sold out… in July.
“Customers have pre-ordered the calendar way in advance,” said EDC sales director Andre Visser. “This gave us a good estimate of the demand for this year, but we could not foresee that we would be as good as sold out in July. We are encouraging customers to pre-order now, even if they only take small amounts, to be sure of supply by the time we release the calendar.”
The Advent Calendar’s theme this year focuses on blue and copper coloring, so the 24 products included will all match this. Designer Hester, who chose the color theme, explained that the “trick was to choose a theme that is unisex but also leaves room for new options in the future.”
“This year the choice fell on a beautiful dark blue shade in combination with copper-colored gloss details,” they continued. “With this color theme, I went to look at the options for the design of the packaging. I wanted something new and different, but I wanted to keep it recognizable. After all, the goal is to create a recurring, recognizable style, but also to ensure that everyone wants the new version every year. A tough task to create something every year that is at least as beautiful as the previous version.”
Preparations for the 2021 edition are already being made, and EDC suggests customers who miss out on the 2020 edition might want to pre-order next year’s model early. For more information contact sales@edcwholesale.com.
If this isn’t a sign that we’re looking for 2020 to come to an end, then I don’t know what is! At the rate we’re going, the 2021 version will be gone by February.
