Adult Webmasters Make Annual Pilgrimage to Sin City
LAS VEGAS, NV – It’s January, and thus time for the winter edition of Internext Expo, the adult internet industry’s largest trade event. While the flow of webmasters, content producers, talent, vendors, lawyers and assorted other attendees began days ago, today marks the show’s official opening, as well as the start of AVN’s Adult Entertainment Expo. After a one-year hiatus, Internext has returned to The Venetian Hotel and the Sands Expo center. While the first events associated with the show took place yesterday, including “QFest 2006 – A Gay Photoshoot Cockumentary,” Internext officially opens for business today at 10:30am, and closes up shop at 5pm. AEE also gets started today, with “trade-members-only” hours from 10am to 5pm.
In addition to drumming up new business and networking with peers, most attendees will flock to the numerous – and in some cases, infamous – parties, and (sadly) substantially fewer will find their way to one or more of the seminars and panel discussions.
As usual, the party schedule is packed, with seven official events scheduled for the first day alone. Included in the fun are free cocktails and food from 10am to 3pm at the VBar (offered up by TopBucks and PlugInFeeds), the opening day for the Porn Poker Tour, the Cybersocket Web Awards, and the Jungle Bash at the Mandalay Bay.
The seminar schedule for day one kicks off with “Maximizing Online Profits: How to achieve your profit potential online,” from 10am to 11am. From 12:15pm to 1:15pm, a panel will examine the relationship between the online and offline adult industry in a discussion entitled “Convergence, Crossover & Diversification: Does convergence mean diversification as online and brick-and-mortar seek new revenue streams?”
The 2pm panel is bound to pique the curiosity of newbies and experienced hands alike; “Playing in Traffic: Who’s converting, where they’re doing it, and how it’s being done” brings together a diverse and unquestionably qualified group to examine the question, including Charles Hentrich of Wildline!, Jay Quinlan of OCCash and Jay’s XXX Links fame, Lindsay Probin of CuriousCash.com, Mark Jenkins from Greenguy & Jim, Q’on, from OnProbation.com, and Rick Muenyong TheBestPorn.com.
The day’s seminars will wrap up with “Parents in Adult: An open, supportive discussion of the complex issues and challenges facing parents who work in adult,” running from 3:15 to 4:15, and “Podcasting, Blogging, and Beyond: The latest developments and opportunities in these hot new trends,” from 4:30 to 5:30.
And so another several sleep-deprived (and more than occasionally alcohol-fueled) event begins. Don’t forget your business cards, don’t let the airport cabbies take you on the “scenic route,” and do your best to avoid the dreaded Las Vegas Tradeshow Flu of Death.
