Adult Site Broker Talk Airs Part 2 of Interview with FSC’s Mike Stabile
PATTAYA, Thailand – This week on the Adult Site Broker Talk podcast, the show airs the second part of its interview with journalist and documentary filmmaker Mike Stabile, who also serves as communications director for the Free Speech Coalition (FSC).
In part one of the interview last week, Stabile and show host Bruce the adult site broker focused largely on state age-verification laws, the potential impact of such laws on the adult industry and the FSC’s work to challenge those laws in court. This week, Mike and Bruce address the question of what members of the adult industry can do to mobilize – and what FSC does to engage with the adult industry and the adult creator community to educate people and get them more engaged in the sort of issues FSC regularly confronts.
Stabile explained one of his approaches to increasing FSC member engagement is to set aside time “generally on Friday afternoons” to “make time to talk to somebody that I’ve never talked to before because I want to understand how their business is changing.”
“I want to understand how this is affecting them,” Stabile said. “I want to understand like that because those become the stories that I can then tell the press, right? Those are the examples. FSC is not involved in production and we’re not involved in distribution. So, a lot of what we’re talking about with these laws can be somewhat theoretical. And what is really helpful is to be engaged with our members.”
Stabile said that in some of those conversations, “people are fearful of looking stupid or think that they already should know this.”
“What I say is like, ‘you’ve got enough going on, right?’,” Stabile said. “Like, we’re the experts in this. And I’m happy to walk you through. I’m happy to give you what you want. If you want to learn, I’m thrilled. And that may be a one-on-one or that may be a webinar. And FSC, that’s what we try to do. We try to do Twitter spaces. We try to do town halls. We try to do webinars. We don’t have the resources to do enough of them because we’re busy doing the actual work. But, that’s what we’re looking at now is to do is more of this so that more people can feel like, ‘OK, I feel comfortable making that first step, and then maybe I’ll get a little bit more involved.’”
“Another great interview with Mike,” said Bruce, host of the show and CEO of Adult Site Broker. “In part two of our conversation, we talked at length about getting more people involved in what the FSC does.”
