New on Adult Site Broker Talk: Lisa Femia of Electronic Frontier Foundation
PATTAYA, Thailand – This week’s guest on the Adult Site Broker Talk podcast is Lisa Femia, a staff attorney from the civil liberties organization Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), the show announced today.
The EFF is a nonprofit organization that focuses on civil rights in the digital world. Founded in 1990, EFF “champions user privacy, free expression, and innovation through impact litigation, policy analysis, grassroots activism, and technology development,” Adult Site Broker Talk noted in announcing Femia’s appearance on the podcast. The organization’s mission is to “ensure that technology supports freedom, justice, and innovation for all people of the world.”
Femia’s work for EFF “focuses on surveillance, privacy, free speech, and the impact of technology on civil rights and civil liberties,” the announcement observed, adding that she has “done substantial work challenging age verification laws across the U.S.”
Femia came to EFF from the U.S. division of Hogan Lovells, a law firm with offices in London and Washington, D.C., “where she maintained a robust pro bono practice centered on democracy reform, criminal justice, and civil rights.” Prior to joining Hogan Lovells, she worked on privacy and government surveillance issues as a clinic student and post-graduate intern at the Brennan Center for Justice.
According to the announcement, Femia was a New York University International Law and Human Rights Fellow while in law school. In that role, she advocated for press freedom and media rights in Kampala, Uganda. Prior to attending law school, Femia worked as the government relations manager of a national nonprofit foundation in Washington, D.C. She holds a J.D. from New York University School of Law and a bachelor’s degree from Princeton University.
The EFF has been involved in a variety of legal challenges to laws that burden the rights of internet users, often in the form of submitting amicus curiae briefs. The podcast’s announcement noted that “in 2024 alone, EFF filed briefs and submitted public comments and letters opposing age verification laws in California, New York, Texas, and Mississippi.” The organization is also involved in opposition to the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA), a federal age verification bill,
“My conversation with Lisa was fascinating,” said Bruce the adult site broker, host of the show and CEO of Adult Site Broker. “It’s great to talk with someone who was there, arguing our industry’s case in front of the Supreme Court. She was a great guest.”
