Adult Shops Indicted on Obscenity Charges Still Doing Business
TOPEKA, KS — It’s been nearly a week since six Topeka businesses were supposed to close their doors and stop selling their goods due to obscenity indictments — yet it’s business as usual, according to employees.Sinsations, Adult Entertainment, and Priscilla’s were among those deemed guilty of selling “obscene objects” by a grand jury. As of Sunday, each was still open and, according to several employees interviewed by local media, although frustrated by the indictments, the stores were experiencing little, if any, affect on their business as a result of the charges.
Shawnee County District Attorney Robert Hecht says that the sheriff’s office conducted a “very thorough and very professional” investigation into the matter of the company’s allegedly obscene merchandise.
Hecht maintains that one of his goals will be to file criminal charges, as well as civil cases against each business, its owners, and the owners of each physical property.
