Adult Satellite Channel Babeworld Reprimanded for Airing Explicit Content Prior To Midnight
LONDON — Adult satellite channel Babeworld TV has been censured by British regulator and competition authority Ofcom for transmitting what Ofcom characterized as “explicit sexual content” on its network before midnight, the hour at which applicable broadcast standards loosen.Babeworld TV was investigated after a complaint was registered by a viewer claiming that the channel had run explicit programming prior to the midnight divide. Babeworld failed to provide a tape of its programming to refute the charge; the company claimed that the failure to provide the tape was due to a “technical failure” by a third-party contractor that administered Babeworld’s compliance recordings.
Babeworld conceded that some of the content broadcast on the channel was “too explicit” for the British market, has changed its “production and editorial partners,” and programming will now be aired in accordance with revised guidelines. Babeworld also said it was producing its own compliance tapes and would no longer depend on third-party contractors.
Ofcom responded to Babeworld’s changes by saying it welcomed steps the company had “taken to avoid any future failure to supply recordings.”
Babeworld’s competitor, Babestar TV, received a similar rebuke from Ofcom last month, when Babestar transmitted an ad for an adult channel “featuring women wearing underwear, lounging on a mattress, and using sex toys,” according to reports on BrandRepublic.com.
The ad promoted “Babestar.tv Live XXX” and appeared at 10:00pm, prior to the midnight cutoff on Look4Love TV, an unencrypted digital channel. The ad reportedly depicted a young woman sucking a lollipop with a voiceover which said: “She’s just 18, she is barely legal, if you like them young, take advantage of our young girls here at Babestar.”
