Adult Industry Figures to Appear at Yale University’s “Sex Week”
NEW HAVEN, CT – While the idea of adult entertainment figures speaking at an a Yale University event may seem an incongruous image, that’s exactly what is going down this week on the campus of the revered Ivy League institution.Monday marks the start of Sex Week at Yale (SWAY), a week of activities “dedicated to the exploration of love, sex, intimacy, and relationships at Yale University.” Along with a group of noted authors and scholars, adult video star Jesse Jane, Digital Playground’s director extraordinaire Joone and First Amendment attorney Greg Piccionelli are slated to speak at the event, providing the adult industry with a voice at the table for this highbrow look at the issues of sex and sensuality.
According to a press release issued by the director of SWAY, the biennial event “has one mission: To get young people talking about sex and sexuality as they experience it everyday.”
“Yale graduates are among the best and brightest minds in the world, but many of them still have no idea of how to ask a girl out on a date,” said SWAY director Dain Lewis. “We strive to get beyond the awkwardness, the discomfort, and the taboo of conventional sex education programs. For better or worse, we treat sexual behavior as the reality it is, not as it has been portrayed.”
SWAY events will include a campus-wide lingerie show featuring designs by Yale University design students, with models strutting to the beats of Yale-based DJs and the premiere of a “quirky homosexual musical comedy” For Love of the Boy by Frank Terry.
For the first time in SWAY’s history, a magazine to be distributed nationwide is being created this year – Sex Week at Yale: The Magazine – a 60-page, full-color publication featuring articles, insights and advice from SWAY’s well-known contributors.
